Universities threaten to punish striking staff over cancelled lectures

Universities are threatening to punish staff（职工）who fail to make up for（补课）lectures and seminars（研讨会）cancelled during strikes（罢工）,李亚倩 a move that union leaders（工会领导）say could prolong（延长）the industrial action（劳工行动）.
In one case the University of Kent has told staff that any failure to reschedule（重新安排）lectures or classes lost because of the strike would see them lose 50% to 100% of their pay“for every day where an individual continues to refuse to perform their full contract of employment（充分履行合同）”.
Kent’s hardline stance（强硬的立场）extends to（扩大至）deducting（扣除）a high proportion of（一大部分）pay from low-paid（低薪的）graduate teaching assistants（助教）, with some liable（有责任的；此处理解成 会）to lose more than a month’s pay for taking part in the strikes（参加罢工）that have so far lasted five days.
The strike by academics（院校；此处理解为学术研究人员/老师）狭叶薰衣草 , librarians（图书管理员）and administrators（行政管理人员）over proposals（提议）to radically（严厉地）restructure their pensions（调整他们的退休金）, which the University and College Union claims will cost staff ￡10官场迷情 ,000 a year after retirement（退休后每年少领1万英镑）翁源东华山, are scheduled to（预定是）restart next week at about 60 universities.

St Andrews, Keele and Liverpool universities are among those that have told staff they face additional pay deductions（额外降薪）unless they reschedule events cancelled during the industrial action（劳工行动）思金人 , which started on 22 February. The cuts would come on top of the pay automatically（自动）lost while on strike.
Sheffield University had initially（起初）threatened to further dock（减少）paybut the university backed down（妥协）after staff protests. Keith Burnett, Sheffield’s vice-chancellor（副校长）先驱者10号 , issued a statement（发布声明）sayingthe university would not take a “punitive approach”（不会采取惩罚措施）.

Keele informed staff this week it would withhold（扣除）20% of pay for “partial performance（指部分履行合同条款）”until staff members rescheduled classes and other timetabled student activities cancelled because of strike action.
“We would wish to make you aware that mindful of the positive employee relations climate（氛围）here at Keele, we have determined to deduct pay at the lower end of the range notified by other universities洪宗玄 ,” management told staff.
